Bobcat Baseball Star To Become
A Skyhawk
Somonauk’s Kartheiser Chooses Sauk Valley At The Next Level

SOMONAUK - During the past three seasons, Somonauk varsity baseball player Brock
Kartheiser has been an integral part of a team that has won a trio of Little Ten
Conference hardball championships and one IHSA Class 1A Regional post-season title.

Recently, Kartheiser decided to take his extensive baseball talents to the next level when
he signed a national junior college letter of intent to play for Sauk Valley Community
College in Dixon.

“Sauk Valley was the first place I visited and it looked like the best place for me to start my
college career,” Kartheiser said. “It’s small, it’s close to home and I think I’ll have a pretty
good opportunity to step in and play right away as a freshman. I just feel like it was the
right place for me to go to school and play college baseball.”

Kartheiser and the Bobcats just concluded the 2010 season with a sparkling record of 24-
4 overall and a perfect 16-0 mark in the LTC. The 5’11” right-hander compiled an
impressive 6-1 pitching record throwing 46 2/3 innings with an earned run average of
0.90. He also struck out 58 batters and walked a mere five.

At the plate, Kartheiser owned a monstrous batting average of .593 with 54 hits in 91
official trips to the plate. He also walked 21 times, scored 52 runs and belted home 43
RBI, while striking out only eight times all season. Overall, a stellar senior season resume
for Kartheiser as he now trades in his Somonauk Bobcat emblem for that of a Sauk Valley
Skyhawk.

“Brock put up some big numbers this year and he also was a great pitching talent. Right
off the bat, I thought he’d be a great match and fit into our group of returning players,”
said Sauk Valley head coach Rene Valdez. “I’m looking for him to spot start in our rotation
and be one of our top relievers coming out the bullpen his freshman year. He’s just a
great kid with excellent grades and we’re glad to have him.”

Kartheiser along with his new Skyhawk teammates will have a big job in front of them.
After a large number of second year players graduated from the 2009 club, Sauk Valley
struggled with a 7-46 overall record in 2010. So it now falls upon the incoming freshman
to help improve a struggling program.

“Hats off to Sauk Valley for signing Brock. It’s a good start for him even though they
struggled with a tough record this year,” said Somonauk coach Bob Honkala. “He’ll be in a
great situation where he should be able to play a lot right away and make an impact on
his college team just like he has at Somonauk the last three years.”
