Six more Illinois high school athletes joined Michael Foltynewicz as draft choices in the
2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Rounds 2-30 were held on Tuesday. Granite City catcher Jake DePew was selected by
the Tampa Bay Rays in the ninth round as the 281st overall pick. Joliet Township catcher
Michael Hollenbeck was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 14th round as the 443rd
overall pick. Mt. Zion right-handed pitcher Ryan Hartman was selected by the Chicago
Cubs in the 16th round as the 490th overall pick.

Chicago Morgan Park center fielder Kendall Radcliffe was selected by the Texas Rangers
in the 25th round as the 766th overall pick. Harrisburg shortstop Reid Roper was selected
by the Atlanta Braves in the 29th round as the 884th overall pick. Finally, Lake Villa Lakes
left-handed pitcher Donald Snelten was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 30th
round as the 904th overall pick.

Hollenbeck is the 11th baseball player from the Joliet public schools to to be drafted out of
high school, and the second draft choice that Terry Piazza has coached as the school.
Roper is the fourth baseball player from Harrisburg to be drafted out of high school, and
the first since 1993. He is the third draftee for coach Jay Thompson. DePew, whose father
Daren is the head coach at Granite City, is the fourth baseball player from the school to
be drafted out of high school, and the first since 1998.

Radcliffe is the fifth baseball player from Morgan Park to be drafted out of high school,
and the first since 1991. Hartman is the third baseball player from Mt. Zion to be drafted
out of high school, and the first since 1993. Snelten is the first baseball player from Lakes
to be drafted out of high school.

In addition to Foltnyewicz (19th overall), Arizona State and Rock Falls alum Seth Blair
(46th overall), and the six called tonight straight from high school, 18 other Illinois high
school alumni were selected out of the respective colleges.

There are three area high school athletes, all right-handed pitchers, still waiting to get the
call: Harlem's Jake Lieske, Guilford's Cyrus Wimberly, and Hononegah's Ryan Scarpetta.
Scarpetta is hoping to the the fourth person of his family to be drafted.

Draft hopeful Mark Payton, center fielder from Chicago St. Rita, will play in the Class 4A
State Baseball Tournament against Huntley on Friday at 5:00 p.m.

Other Illinois prep draft hopefuls include: Chad Green (right-handed pitcher, Effingham),
Jeffery Jackson (catcher, Wauconda), Eric Jagielo (shortstop, Downers Grove North),
Kevin Koziol (first baseman, Chicago Brother Rice), Connor Sadzeck (right-handed
pitcher, Crystal Lake Central), Brock Steward (shortstop, Normal West) and Jeffery
Zimmerman (first baseman, Tinley Park Andrew).

Rounds 31-50 will follow on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. area time in the same order as the
past rounds.

Washington will have the first choice of each round. The Pittsburgh Pirates have the
second choice, followed by the:  Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals, Cleveland
Indians, Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Mets, Houston Astros, San Diego Padres,
Oakland Athletics, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinatti Reds, Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee
Brewers, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels of
Anaheim, the Astros again, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers, Florida
Marlins, San Francisco Giants, St. Louis Cardinals, Colorado Rockies, Philadelphia
Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, the Angels twice more, the Rays again, and finally the New
York Yankees.

The Washington Nationals selected catcher Bryce Harper of the College of Southern
Nevada as the first overall pick in the Draft. The Pirates, having the second choice,
selected right-handed pitcher Jameson Tallion of The Woodlands (Tex.) High School.
Shortstop Manny Machado of Brito (Fla.) High School was selected third overall by the
Baltimore Orioles.
