Below is the Northern Illinois Sports Beat "Coverage Area." Note that the coverage
area may be different from what YOU consider "area." The "NISB Area," or "area"
in NISB writings refers to this list.
Generally, the area consists of everything:
-South of the Wisconsin State Line
-North of US Route 6 (towns ON it are covered)
-East of the Mississippi River
-West of US Route 14, then Illinois 23, and then (going south) the County Line,
Route 38, and Illinois 47 (towns ON them are covered)
However, there are some exceptions to this area. These are made possible by two
rules determining the coverage area.
1) NCIC Rule - Any school in the North Central Illinois Conference (NCIC) is
considered "coverage area." This is because NISB's historical lineage dates back
to NCIC Preps, a website started in 1997. In the event of a conference split, the
two-or-more conferences resulting will also fall under this rule - for first generation
only. Chillicothe IVC is considered in the coverage area.
2) One-Out Rule - In regards to the current coverage area, if there is only one
school in a conference that falls outside the borders, the school is considered a
coverage area school. Kewanee (Three Rivers), Richmond-Burton (Big
Northern) and Streator (NIB 12) are considered in the coverage area.
Note: Technically, Rock Island and Rock Island Alleman fall on the other side of
Route 6, but on the right side of the Mississippi River. These two are included in
the coverage area.
